Nieuwe website, nieuwe plannen!

In 6 dagen tijd 5 concerten. Allemaal heel verschillend, maar ook heel succesvol.
In één woord HEERLIJK!

Terug

Terug

Spring!

Spring !

When the sun is shining and the leaves are peeking out the trees, I have more than ever the desire to go outside and celebrate spring.

I also feel the desire for new things and new things to explore.

And I'm happy to share some new things with you!
In January I went to New York for two performances, including the Shloshim (memorialconcert ) for my friend and mentor Beyle Schaechter - Gottesman . For me, it was a trip back in time , but also a trip back to what's important to me: Giving Yiddish song a new sound and a future.

Since my trip to America, much has happened:
I have a new agency in New York ( www.goldenland.com ) They are preparing an American tour for this summer.
In addition to that, we started our own production company. ( www.lucettevandenbergproductions.nl ). With this company we'll produce concerts and all other activities with venues and festivals  in the Netherlands and Europe.
By doing it ourself, lines are shorter and we can organize tailormade programmes.

There is also good news about my 'brainchild' Jiddisch Festival Leeuwarden, of whom I am the artistic director.
In 2008, the first festival took place in Leeuwarden. Everyone agreed : This wonderful!
In 2010 , we were back with a second festival, in which again a lot of international artists came to Leeuwarden to make music, to teach and show the beautiful sides of Yiddish culture.
But ... in 2012, the festival was canceled by budget cuts . Very sad, indeed.
Fortunately, Jiddisch Festival Leeuwarden is Yiddish culture alike: Strong, passionate, creative and flexible.

So: we're back! Stronger than ever!

From 30th April to 4th May Jiddisch Festival Leeuwarden will open it's doors.
There will be concerts, workshops, lectures, films and more! A
And colleagues and friends from all around the world come to Leeuwarden to have a fantastic festival, together wih guests, public and participants.
I will teach, together with Efim Chorny and Susanna Ghergus the Yiddish songworkshop.

Every night there are concerts.
I will appear on stage with my whole band, on Fridaynight May 2nd, with my new program ' Benkshaft '.

Would you like to get yourself involved in one of the workshops ( Yiddish song , klezmer workshops or Yiddish language workshop ) ? Don't wait any longer and sign in! For the participants from abroad , there is the opportunity to stay for free at guest families.

All the information you need and more can be found at: www.jiddischfestivalleeuwarden.nl.

Hope to see you , zay mir gezunt ,

Happy new year!

Fun day on a comic Festival

Yesterday I got invited by one of my dearest friends to come to the 'Comic Festival' in my hometown, wich she organizes.
It's a festival for comic lovers and a lot of comic writers and cartoonists give 'acte de presence'.

I have to admit: I'm not a comic fan, or a comic reader at all, I didn't know what to expect.
But since I have a very curious nature, I thought 'It can be fun, so let's give it a shot'.

The festival ran in the open air, in the city centre and the atmophere was really amazing. Nice weather, nice and friendly people and nice coffee..
What I didn't know, and what my friend kept secret for me, is that she asked some of the (famous dutch) cartoonists to draw me in comic style.

Well there I was, totally unprepaired and somewhat shy.. But they did an amazing job.

Since I think it's very good, not to be serious about myself all the time, I'll show you the cartoons.
One cartoon is me as a comic hero and the other is a little joke: it's me as Bianca Castafiore (Tintin of cartoonist Hergé) who sings the jewel aria all the time...

Well...

It was a very nice inspirering and relaxing day. Loved it!

Counting at the last days of the year

What a wonderful year, this has been.

I'm still a littlebit dizzy of all the things to me this year, but most of all I am grateful for all the wonderful things and the all amazing people I met this year.

And sitting at home at my fireplace it's time to count my blessings.
And I can tell you: I'm still counting...

This year I had such nice and warm concerts in Holland, France and Germany. I met wonderful, warm en enthousiastic people who believe in my way of singing yiddish songs.
For me the concerts in Deauville and Paris, for a yiddish speaking audience were highlights. But also working with Rabbi Avram Soetendorp for the leadershipscourse of Avicienna was amazing. Often I feel very lucky to meet such inspirering persons in my life and also be able to work and discuss life with them. And what to think of the CD release concert, the 25th of november!

And this wonderful year is also the year of my new Album 'Benkshaft' (longing)
I feel blessed to have worked with wonderful musicians, who are not only superb in their craftmenship, but also good and longtime friends. You can hear it on my recordings. It's warm, free and intense.
And how nice to have found a recordcompany who believes in my music and gave me all the space to make my album as personal as it became.

Yes... I'm a very happy and lightly feeling person at this moment. And counting, counting, counting... all my blessings...

I wish all of you a wonderful end of this year and hopefully we'll see each other somewhere around this globe.

Contract!

Yep... big news!

I signed a contract with the US based label Dot Time Records!
Dot-Time Records is a new Jazz and World music label. The label releases feature exciting viruoso artists, both established and newley discovered from around the globe. The branding of the label can be found in the creativity, artistry, passion  and energy of these artists.

The contract is for my new yiddish album, on wich new songs of Michael Felsenbaum and new compositions of myself will appear.

For me it's very exiting to have a international (worldwide) label, who presents my CD. And I'm very proud to be amongst such great other musicians and artists.

My new yiddish CD was recorded in april. It was about time to make a new  CD, but I'm very aware of the fact that a creative product conducts itself.

When I met Michael Felsenbaum and when he started to write beautiful lyric yiddish songs for me, I knew it was about time to think about a new CD. Later, much later, encouraged by my good friend and guitarplayer Reinout Vrijhoef I also decided that it was about time to record some songs of my own.
My new CD is about longing and friendship. Written by my dear friend Michael and recorded with wonderful musicians, whom also are good friends. I'm blessed. That's for sure.

This week, the artwork for the CD and booklet (also made by a wonderful designer and good friend) are ready for printing and next week the 'master' will be send to the CD factory.

Good times, exiting times..!

A classical concert on the warmest day of the year

The first concert of the season was a very special one.
I sang classical reperoire of Bach, Mozart and Mendelssohn with to organplayers in my hometown.

It was a littlebit difficult to get my voice back in shape, right after my vacation in France, where I did nothing more than sitting in the sun and swimming a bit in the pool.
Time to work again. But that was very difficult considering the weather... Boy it was hot! Our weather report reported that it were the hottest summerdays since 70 years or so...
Even in the beautiful old Bovenkerk the temperature was 23 degrees Celsius.

You can imagine, that I didn't know what to wear at this concert. I selected two dresses, but at the end I sang my concert in a summerdress..

It went very well. I was fun to work with two organs, one played the basso continuo part and the other played the obligate part.

I hope to do this again. But hopefully with normal temperatures!

Summer break

It's july and we'll almost of for our holidays. Just a few days, with some meetings, rehearsels and then I will be in France for some weeks.
In this last week of work, I always have the need to reflect on the past year. And on this moment it fills me with gratitude.

I had a wonderful year, full of concerts, wonderful audience and more..

Some highlights?
Well let's start with the recordings of my new album 'Benkshaft', with new songs of Mikhoel Felsenbaum and myself.
They were absolutely amazing and I can tell you now: Recording an album actually can be fun! The album will be out in october, so I still have to wait a little while, before I will have my album in my hands. But I can assure you: It's an album full of colours and a reflection of my journey in live of the past years.
And then some amazing concerts, with amazing audience: In Enschede in the Synagoge, in Elburg, with princess Maxima as a guest, in Deauville and in Paris. How wonderful it is, to see that the audience appreciates yiddish songs and the way I present it.
I also coached two choirs past year. It's wonderful to see how people react, learn and are inspired by music.
So my conclusion? I love my job! I really do!

See you after the break...

small article about my program: "A shtim fun harts"

Here's a small article about my program: 'A shtim fun harts'. I'm sorry folks... it's in dutch, but it's nice, when you can read it (and understand it...!)

interview with NIW (Dutch Jewish Weekly)

Hi Folks,

Here's a small interview with the NIW (Dutch Jewish Weekly). It's small but tells in a few words why I sing yiddish music, about my new album (wich I recorded the last days of april and will released in september or so) and more.
If you read and understand Dutch: Have fun!
If you don't: Maybe it's time to learn dutch??

Busy but happy

The last time I updated my blog, it was cold and all the ponds were frozen..
Now it looks like spring finally arrives. And I can tell you: I'm really looking forward to that!

On this moment I actually have no time for spring or sun. I'm very busy with the last texts, arrangements etc. for my new (5th) solo CD.

Yes... that's right. Next week I will record my 5th solo CD with new yiddish repertoire. It will contain music written by Mikhoel Felsenbaum and music written by myself. And it's absolutely thrilling to me!
Tomorrow I will have the last rehearsal, with my amazing wonderful musicians.

And I'm happy that I also have so much concerts to do. This week I had a concert in Vught. Together with Rabbi Awram Soetendorp. On sunday I will perform in the Synagoge of Enschede (a city in Holland near to Germany). It's seems that there will be a mixes audience with dutch and german people.
And next week another concert with Rabbi Soetendorp. I look forward to that too.

So, on this computer, sits a busy but happy singer. Happy to sing with such beautiful friends/ musicians and happy to have such nice audience! (and that's what I try to remember every time when I'm tired of all the work I still have to do).

So cold!

Winter decided to show her freezing side...
No, I'm not complaining. As a girl living in Holland, I like cold winters, with snow and ice. But I never expected this temperatures. 17 degrees (celsius) below zero...
In a few days the ponds were frozen and when the ice was thick enough the first daredevils started skating on the ponds.

Here in Holland, we have a crazy kind of behavior, when it's freezing this way.
All we can think is: Elfstedentocht.... A skate tour of 200 km through Friesland and eleven city's in one day. Now for that you have to be crazy or dutch, or both.

Yep, somehow the skating fever got me too... I bought new skates and also a pair of skates for my son, whom is 10 years old. Mummy will teach him skating. Whoehoe! I'm already preparing myself for the worst... But hey... it's fun!

Meanwhile I also worked on some other things: I composed a new song (on a poem wich Mikhoel Felsenbaum wrote for me).
I still have to work on the chords and write down the exact melody, but it's a very sad and nice song in my favorite key: C minor.

This past week I had also contact with some very nice venues in Enschede, Amsterdam and Dieren, where Reinout (my guitarplayer) and I will perform. Check out the calendar for the new dates!

A varemen grus,

Lucette

Working on my new website

Wow!

It's been a while, since I last updated my website...
I know, some of you must have thought: Is Lucette still singing? And when she does, where does she perform?

Well folks: I'm alive and kicking. Actually more then that: I'm working on some very interesting and inspiriring things!
As you can see in my calendar, I worked past years on so many things, which deepened my awareness for my way of making music. So far, so good.
With this new fresh start, I needed a new website, with a fresh new look.

On my new website you can find a fresh new calendar, a store, this blog, my video's and ofcourse new photo's, (the official photo's are made in Switserland by the wonderful creative Abisha Photography on location) but also photo's in more 'musical' settings and of me and my friends.

So, here it is. Please, take a look and let me know what you think!

I hope you like it.

And when you want an update about all my activities, just sign up at the widget, wich appears 'left side' on every page.

Hope to see you around!

A varemen grus,

Lucette
